WCT provides a range of programs from musicals to vacation programs, and weekend workshops to afterschool projects. For an overview of the kinds of programs we offer, visit our What We Do page. Online registration is HIGHLY recommended! Paper and email registration forms are still accepted, but they are slower to process, so for popular programs which fill quickly, we encourage the use of the online form.

WINTER 2017

WI2 - This intensive will introduce actors to the dance styles of musical theatre’s most famous and iconic choreographers. Students with any amount of experience in dance will gain an understanding and appreciation of different approaches to movement that they can apply in any class or production!

SPRING 2017

WA3 - Looking to brush up your dance skills, scene work, and vocal performance? Then this is the workshop for you! In this 2-hour intensive, students will gain confidence and skills that will assist them in any audition, as well as receive feedback from a mock audition.

    WPS3 - Join us as we explore J. M. Barrie’s magical world of Neverland! Through creative drama and storytelling, students in this class will learn the basics of performance using their bodies, voices, and imaginations. Transform into fairies, pirates, lost children, and more as you bring to life this classic story and invent new tales of your own. Students may want to pair this class with its art partner “Reaching Through Art: Beyond the Page”.     WPT3 - What do The Lion King, West Side Story, and She’s The Man all have in common? They’re based on Shakespeare’s stories! This class will explore plots and characters from Shakespeare’s original text and from modern adaptations of his tales. See how these classic plays have withstood the test of time as you develop your character creation and scene work skills in this fun and fast-paced class!     WWC3 - Dive into the genre of sketch comedy! This class explores the balance between script and improvisation as you and your team of comedians develop memorable characters in bite-sized scenes.     WWH3A - PlayMakers returning and new will have the exciting opportunity to write, act in, and produce their own short works of theatre! Our young playwrights will get to experience the journey of a play from idea to performance as they draft scripts, create characters, design sets, and more in this fast-paced class.     WMM3B - This movement-based class will explore the unique challenge of playing a character onstage that is not human. Through physicality, solo work, and scene study, students in this class will learn how to transform themselves fully into characters that are animals or other creatures -- without crawling on all fours!

    WMM3C - "More Than Moves" is just what it says it is: more than moves! In collaboration with WCT, local movement company Paradise Lost brings its fun-filled fusion of dancing, acting, movement, and improv in this series of four workshops. Instructors take a holistic approach to dance by focusing on values of collaboration, listening, and self-expression while leading classes. This special 4-week class is designed for students at any level of experience or comfort with dance.

    WI3B - Ever listened to The Moth? The art of storytelling has become all the rage, but how do you transform moments in your life into memorable stories for an audience? Students may want to pair this class with its art partner, “Art With A Message: Telling Your Story”.     WCY2B - Core CYC Members choose a major and minor focus area from the following: Lighting Design, Sound Design, Costume Design, Stage Management, Scenic Design/Painting, Properties Construction and Management, Makeup and Hair Design, Stage Direction, Music Direction, Choreography.Training with professionals in these areas provides students with the skills to confidently contribute to a production process. Successful completion of the Core program provides students with the opportunity to lead a technical or production process for a WCT showcase, One-Act Festival, Spring Shorts Festival or other production opportunity as members of the CYC Company. Core members are encouraged to explore several areas before choosing a focus and applying to the CYC Company program.
    Eligibility Requirements: Completion of CYC Foundation training or Exemption.

    Bring theatre to your afterschool program! Watertown Children's Theatre partners with Parent-Teacher Associations and school administrators to offer creative dramatics and theatre workshops as part of after-school clubs and enrichment programs.     SV21 - Act! Sing! Dance! Design! In Tiny Triple Threats, our youngest students get a chance to experience all different aspects of how theatrical productions and fine arts converge. From astronauts to comets to black holes, students will have a blast creating aliens, spaceships, and more! They will put together a short musical revue inspired by galaxies near and far, featuring their unique artwork and music! This program culminates in a showcase on Friday for family and friends.

    SV22 - The Break A Leg Troupe is back! In this unique, two-week program, performers in the the Break A Leg Troupe will take a favorite work of literature and transform it into a one- of-a-kind theatre piece! Participants will take on the roles of playwright, actor, designer, and more! During the final days of the program, the Break A Leg Troupe will tour to local libraries and perform onsite Friday for family and friends.

    SV14 - Take part in the unique opportunity to devise an original show with an ensemble of your peers in just two weeks! Devising refers to a process-based approach to creating a one-of-a-kind work of theatre based on a topic or idea instead of a script. Push the boundaries of what theatre means to you as you stretch yourself as an actor, collaborator, and creator! This intensive two-week program will culminate in a performance at the end of the second week.

Besides playing a role onstage, all participants will work on backstage committees to bring costumes, props, and other production elements to life!

    SV34 - In Story Explorers, students explore a variety of media and performance skills as they engage their imaginations to create literature-inspired artwork and get it on its feet through creative drama and storytelling. Students will channel their inner Seuss as they make whimsical drawings, sculptures, and other projects throughout the week. They will bring their artwork to life, as they use what they create to dramatize and play with many Seuss stories, and even write some ridiculous rhymes of their own! This program culminates in a showcase on Friday for family and friends.

    PRIVATE VOICE LESSONS

    Read our Voice Program Policies here (pdf).Strengthen your voice through individual lessons! Special attention will be paid to proper vocal technique, performance ability and stage deportment, as well as general music appreciation and awareness. Tuition: $35/half-hour lesson Location: Arsenal Center for the Arts, WCT Drama Space Days/Times: Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:00-8:30 pm (half-hour slots) Notice: WCT's Voice Lesson Policy allows students to keep their assigned slots as long as they continue to register in consecutive terms.* As a result, new slots only become available at the transition between semesters when/if any ongoing students decide not to continue.
