WCT provides a range of programs from musicals to vacation programs, and weekend workshops to afterschool projects. For an overview of the kinds of programs we offer, visit our ‘What We Do‘ page.

Online registration is HIGHLY recommended! Paper and email registration forms are still accepted, but they are slower to process, so for popular programs which fill quickly, we encourage the use of the online form.

WA2 – Looking to brush up your dance skills, scene work, and vocal performance? Then this is the workshop for you! In this 2 hour intensive, students will gain confidence and skills that will assist them in any audition, as well as receive feedback from a mock audition.

WPS2 – Join us as we explore playful poems full of ridiculous rhymes and kooky characters, by favorite authors including Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky! Through creative drama and storytelling, students in this class will learn the basics of performance using their bodies, voices, and imaginations.

WWC2 – In this favorite WCT class, students will write, film, and star in their own short films, as they discover the art of telling a story – fast! Students will develop scripts, then become their own film crew and cast as they produce their films using equipment and resources from Watertown Cable Access Television!

WPT2 – Get ready to fight! This class combines learning techniques of stage combat – from slaps to falls to punches – with scene study and character development to create exciting conflict onstage. Students will focus on creating the illusion of reality in a safe and controlled environment as they hone their performance and ensemble skills.

WMM2A – Explore the different styles of dance most commonly used in theatre, and build your knowledge and confidence in movement techniques and terminology. Learn essential dance styles from classical to contemporary in this fun and energetic ensemble class!

WMM2B – Students in this advanced class will work intensively on their acting and singing skills, focusing specifically on the transition from scene into song in works of musical theatre. Emphasis will be placed on developing nuanced characters, sustaining and physicalizing a character while singing, and playing a clear action in both spoken text and lyrics.

WWH2A – PlayMakers returning and new will have the exciting opportunity to write, act in, and produce their own short works of theatre! Our young playwrights will get to experience the journey of a play from idea to performance as they draft scripts, create characters, design sets, and more in this fast-paced class.

WWH2B – This favorite class focuses on the creation of 10-minute plays. Students will explore real-life scenarios, humor, drama, and more as they each work to craft an original 10-minute play. This program culminates with our Spring Shorts Festival where your script will be performed on stage and evaluated by a panel of judges. Selected plays will go on to be workshopped and performed at Open Arts Day. This program will require some writing during out-of-class time.

WI2 – This intensive will introduce actors to the dance styles of musical theatre’s most famous and iconic choreographers. Students with any amount of experience in dance will gain an understanding and appreciation of different approaches to movement that they can apply in any class or production!

WCY2B – Core CYC Members choose a major and minor focus area from the following: Lighting Design, Sound Design, Costume Design, Stage Management, Scenic Design/Painting, Properties Construction and Management, Makeup and Hair Design, Stage Direction, Music Direction, Choreography.

Training with professionals in these areas provides students with the skills to confidently contribute to a production process. Successful completion of the Core program provides students with the opportunity to lead a technical or production process for a WCT showcase, One-Act Festival, Spring Shorts Festival or other production opportunity as members of the CYC Company. Core members are encouraged to explore several areas before choosing a focus and applying to the CYC Company program.

Eligibility Requirements: Completion of CYC Foundation training or Exemption.

Bring theatre to your afterschool program! Watertown Children’s Theatre partners with Parent-Teacher Associations and school administrators to offer creative dramatics and theatre workshops as part of after-school clubs and enrichment programs. Students are able to participate in these opportunities in the comfort of a known environment and take advantage of school-sponsored transportation (like activity buses) where available.

FALL 2016

WMM1C-G – “More Than Moves” is just what it says it is: more than moves! In collaboration with WCT, local movement company Paradise Lost brings its fun-filled fusion of dancing, acting, movement, and improv in this series of four workshops. Instructors take a holistic approach to dance by focusing on values of collaboration, listening, and self-expression while leading classes. This series of workshops is designed for students at any level of experience or comfort with dance. Each of the four classes focuses on a specific foundation of movement that when put together make for a well-rounded performer and mover.

Move and groove with friends during “SLAM!” Instructors marry the skills of improvisational theatre, comedy, and dance performance in a series of games and activities that lead to the unique form of
SLAM-ing (Storytelling Listening And Movement). This is an improv movement-based workshop perfect for anyone looking to laugh, let loose, and have fun dancing in a judgment-free space.

Find yourself losing your balance more than you want to? We will help you find your footing in “BALANCE!” Instructors focus on the importance of core-strengthening to improve overall stability. Through fun and easily accessible games, students will learn basic dance positions, alignment, and technique… Without even realizing they are in 1st, 2nd, OR 3rd position!

Looking to stretch your boundaries? Join “REACH!” – a fun-filled workshop of activities and exercises that will leave students with tools for how to improve flexibility and properly warm-up before performance or physical activity. Students will be reaching for the stars by the end of the workshop!

Let your imagination run wild in “CREATE!” Instructors facilitate collaboration among students to create their own dance pieces and learn some tips and tricks on how to pick up choreography along the way. At the end of the day, students will share the short pieces they have created with each other. This choreography-based workshop is perfect for aspiring directors and choreographers-to-be!

PRIVATE VOICE LESSONS

Read our Voice Program Policies here (pdf).

Strengthen your voice through individual lessons! Special attention will be paid to proper vocal technique, performance ability and stage deportment, as well as general music appreciation and awareness.

Tuition: $35/half-hour lesson
Location: Arsenal Center for the Arts, WCT Drama Space
Days/Times: Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:00-8:30 pm (half-hour slots)

Notice: WCT’s Voice Lesson Policy allows students to keep their assigned slots as long as they continue to register in consecutive terms.* As a result, new slots only become available at the transition between semesters when/if any ongoing students decide not to continue. People who are interested in having voice lessons with WCT are kept on a Wait List to be notified as spaces become available. To sign up for the Wait List, please fill out a registration form at WCT School-Year Private Voice Lessons Wait List.
